What a fantastic day we had. Thank you to Sara for the wonderful photos.
Today is Thanksgiving in the USA and we got into the festive spirit! Zena's mum Kim is from the USA and lent us a book about being thankful and baked some delicious mini pumpkin pies for us! It's great for the children to learn about different cultures and customs.
Here is some writing we wrote today to celebrate Thanksgiving: I am thankful for butterflies because they are beautiful and I am thankful for my family. - Lily I am thankful of Royden and running too. I love Royden too. - Joe I am thankful for my sister because she is cute and for Ireland because it is my country. - Luke I am thankful for being kind to others because I want to be kind. - Chloe I am thankful for Joe and Riley and Luke and Saxon and Sam because they are kind to me. - Royden I am thankful for making coffee for my mum. - Exas I am thankful for ladybirds because they are my friends and I am thankful for fruit because it is yummy. - Zena I am thankful for Father Christmas because he gives me lollies. - Sam I am thankful for Indie to help me run faster and she gets 2 stuff for me. I like it. - Sienna I am thankful for my family. - Miley I am thankful for my brother because he got my jersey and he is lovely. - Vesper I am thankful for my family because they are kind. - Saxon On Thursday we had our first Athletics Day. All the children performed so well and tried their best. There were six events: discus, hurdles, long jump, shotput, sprints and high jump. Royden, Joe, Riley, Uike, Vesper and Lily represented Room 9 in the relay race and came 2nd place. Well done! Room 9 was also well represented in the parent/child race. To finish off the events, we had the caterpillar race which Room 9 WON. Thank you to all the supporters who came to watch; your support is greatly appreciated. Thanks to Zena's mum Kim for sharing her photos.
The Room 9 children never cease to amaze with their creative ideas. Here is a selection of their fantastic creations.
In Week 3, we had a wonderful morning with our grandparents (and parents). We did fun craft activities in the morning, followed by a shared morning tea and ending with our folk dancing demonstration. It was great to meet some of the Room 9 grandparents and thank you to those of you that worked with other children. Thank you to Luke's mum Naomi for sharing some of her photos.
This is the name of our inquiry this term. We will be exploring all the ways we can move our bodies and how to keep them safe. We will be participating in athletics, folk dancing, swimming and beach education. On Monday afternoon, Team Star and Team Lightning gathered in the hall for our ignition for this inquiry. Using SOLO thinking and mapping, the children described what they saw in physical activity photos, what this made them think and what this made them wonder .There were some great observations and wonderings as a result. The completed work is in the R6/7 cloakroom. Ka pai!
It will be a fantastic term with lots of outdoor activities such as athletics, folk dancing and swimming. Our first week back was filled with new learning. In maths, we are learning about halves and quarters. We experienced with making fractions out of playdough and water. In writing, we started writing about instructions. We made toast and ordered the steps required. It was a great start to the term! |
Kia ora and welcome to Room 9's blog! We love to share our learning with our friends and whanau :-)
